The Story Behind the Name
What is Svasthya?
Svasthya is one of the Sanksrit words for health and well-being. In Sanskrit, which is the language of the ancient sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda, words are literally charged with meaning. The word Svasthya is made up of two smaller root words:
Sva: the True Self
Stha: etablished, steady, and solid
In the Vedic tradition, health and well-being are understood as an active process as well as a state of being. Well-being is qualified by the experience of being firmly established, steady, and solid within the True Self, no matter what the external conditions are. The True Self is the part of an individual that is deeply connected to one’s innermost nature and highest values.
Well-being is a state of integrity and harmonious relationship with the True Self.
Most people tend to take health and wellness for granted until a state of imbalance or inner-conflict arises. The need to pay attention, listen, and course-correct becomes evident in order to live a fulfilling life, in harmonious relationship with nature - one’s own inner nature as well as the nature of the outer world.
